Why your Wix site isn't ranking

If you have had a Wix site for a year and Google still treats you like a rumour, the platform is probably not the villain. The page is.

We see the same pattern across Essex: a handsome template, a homepage that says "welcome", and zero pages that answer the question a customer typed.

Templates are not a strategy#

Wix, Squarespace and the rest will give you a layout. They will not give you a reason to rank. Google is looking for a page that satisfies a search. A slider and a stock photo do not do that.

The sites that move are the ones that pick a handful of searches a real customer would type, like "emergency plumber Chelmsford" or "wedding florist Essex", and write a page that actually helps.

Speed, mobile and the quiet technical stuff#

Phones are the whole game. If the first screen takes three seconds of animation before the phone number appears, people leave. Rankings follow.

Wix has improved, but it is still easy to stack apps until the page wheezes. Uninstall what you cannot explain.

  • One H1 that matches the search you want
  • Titles and descriptions written by a person, not auto-filled
  • Images compressed, not dumped from a phone at full size
  • A handful of location and service pages, not fifty empty ones

Ranking is not a plugin. It is a page that deserves to be found.

People now ask ChatGPT and Google's AI overviews as well as the blue links. Thin template copy is even easier to skip. Specifics like prices, areas and process are what get cited.

Content that is actually about the job#

"We are passionate about excellence" is not content. The job, the area, the price range, the time it takes, the thing you will not do. That is content.

3–6

months to see a real shift

Write like you talk on the phone. Then put that on a URL Google can find.

Should you rebuild?#

Sometimes. If you cannot add pages, cannot edit titles, or the site is a maze of apps, a rebuild on something you own is cheaper than another year of hoping.

If the Wix site is merely unloved, you do not need a new platform. You need titles, service pages and a reason to click. We do both. Prices are on the site.

Questions

Not automatically. Wix has the technical basics now. The ranking problem is usually thin copy, generic titles and a site that does not match what people actually search for.

Only if the platform is getting in the way of speed, structure or content you cannot currently publish. Moving for its own sake wastes a quarter and does not write the missing pages.

Useful movement is usually months, not days. If someone promises first page in two weeks, they are selling a different product.
